New book contract! “Sex and Sexuality in Stuart Britain”

Hear ye! For those of you who haven’t already seen my announcement via Twitter, Instagram, and/or Facebook, my news is that I have been commissioned by Pen & Sword Publishing to write Sex and Sexuality in Stuart Britain!

The contract!

This will be part of a new series of history books that “explores our ancestors’ ingenious, surprising, bizarre and often entertaining solutions to the challenges associated with maintaining a healthy sex life. It also looks at the prevailing attitudes to sex and sexuality and the ways in which sexual attitudes and behaviour were often determined by those in positions of power and authority. It also explores the relationship between sex and power and how notorious scandals of the time brought down powerful figures.”

I am very excited about this project and am currently in the research stage. There are soooo many juicy tidbits of Stuart sexual antics, liaisons, and literature to mention that I am eager to dive into it all. I’ll be able to expand upon topics and stories about Stuart sex that I’ve only ever been able to touch upon in my previous books.

The new London office!

I care for my toddler 24/7 (which I feel very fortunate to do), but I have sorted a (hopefully workable) schedule with my husband so I can do this. He is very supportive of my writing endeavours, but our little one is very attached to Mama (especially, I think, as we’ve just moved to London). As I have until February, I am going to do my best to make the deadline. Despite being right next to the tram tracks (and so one hears the tram every few minutes), I really love the new office, which is without a doubt the best office I’ve used).

Enough blogging now – time to get to work!

My best to you all and thank you for your continual support x

The obsession with sex we are supposed to keep up with? what sort of relationship is happening between the sexes with regard to the mind?

    Hi Andrea
Congratulations on your new contract. It sounds exciting! I hope you’re settling into life in London. You’ve certainly surrounded yourself with a wonderful office environment which should be very conducive to good writing. Congratulations, too, on striking a healthy balance between parenthood and work. We’ve been there four times and it’s a bit of a balancing act, but very do-able and ultimately wonderfully satisfying and rewarding. The most important work you will ever do in life is within the four walls of your own home. You and Gavin seem to be well on target to achieving that.

Take care, and all the best

    Simon

    Andrea,
I’m quite late in sending congratulations to you on your book contract but it was a very busy summer for us trying to find a new place to live. Now that I’m mostly settled, I can’t wait to add this one to my shelves! Your books are so well researched that I know this will be another winner. Enjoy your time spent with your lovely “toddler” as she won’t stay that way long. Make lovely memories that you can reflect back on when she’s older. All the best to you.

    Judy
