Death of Nicolas Poussin

One of my favourite painters from the Seventeenth Century – Nicolas Poussin – died on this day 19th November, 1665, in Rome.

I thought I’d share a few of my favourite paintings of his, courtesy of the amazing www.nicolaspoussin.org

I was fortunate that, during my time in college, I had the opportunity to study with a painter who loved Baroque and Classical paintings and he introduced me to the work of Poussin. I still love it.

This is probably his most famous painting, The Rape of the Sabine Women:

What a brutal, colourful painting.

This is another famous painting, entitled, “Dance to the Music of Time:”

The next one is “The Triumph of Neptune:”
