I can’t believe it. We are almost at the end of the second summer of doing the Garden History Tours at Kensington Palace. It’s been exceptionally rewarding yet again. I have had the pleasure of meeting so many nice people from around the world and it’s been great fun to talk about the rich history of the palace’s gardens. Tours are on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and we operate on a first come, first served basis – meaning, you need to sign up either at the White Court or at the Queen’s Entrance. Tours start at 12pm and 2pm at the Queen’s entrance.
Those who join the tours:
- learn about the history of the palace and gardens from the time of William and Mary (17th Century) through the time of Queen Victoria (19th Century), Princess Diana and up to today!
- are given exclusive access into the Edwardian Sunken Garden – a privilege denied to most visitors to the palace.

These photos were taken by my friend and colleague, author Simon Kleinig, who is another garden history guide as well as a non-fiction writer. I encourage those on the tour to ask questions. Please be aware, however, that these tours are about the *history* of the gardens – not the botany! You’d be surprised how many people ask me botany questions, which I can’t answer as I’m a historian!
